The Nielsen Company, originally known as VNU Group, is a global market and media data provider that also offers publications, online services and events such as trade shows and conferences in the business-to-business sector. The Nielsen Company's best-known brands are market research giant ACNielsen and media research company Nielsen Media Research. In addition, Nielsen includes the internet statistics service Nielsen // NetRatings, the marketing service provider Claritas and the company Scarborough Research, which focuses on the collection of socio-demographic data. The Nielsen Company is privately owned after being bought by the financial investor group Valcon Acquisition.
