    Far too often a person in the conversation just wants to express his or her opinion and as a result, both talk past each other. Mutual understanding is possible through active listening. We adopt an appreciative attitude, begin to question our own opinion and get involved with the other.

    You learn something about the motives and desires of the other. Of course, this requires a mental presence that is reflected physically: looking at the smartphone at the same time or turning your back during a presentation, staring at the floor or already packing up your documents tends to convey the opposite.

    Paraphrasing questions or conversation content is also a popular conversation technique. In doing so, you repeat what you have last heard in your own words. This conversation technique has several positive effects.
